WHAT WE DO

Maintenance

When you are out on the trails, we want you to think of nothing other than the beauty of your surroundings, the people you are with, your workout and the amazing health benefits of each of these things. We often say that we are taking care of the details, so you don't have to.  Part of that is making sure our trails are clear and safe which means removing fallen branches, cutting back overgrowth and brushing the trails on a regular basis. We are so grateful to our professional trail crew who ensure you are having the best possible experience on the trails.

"As a daily hiker on our local trails, I am constantly impressed by the ongoing maintenance and work done by MTF. Whether it's mulching trails, trimming overgrowth, or removing fallen boulders and trees, MTF keeps our community trails safe and beautiful."

Restoration

Our mountains are part of an ecosystem and geological phenomenon that naturally cause erosion. As a result, our trails are at times in need of restoration rather than maintenance. At no other time in recent memory has this been so true than as a result of the Thomas Fire and Debris Flow of 2018. Restoring trails is hard work and requires careful planning and we are up for the task because of the amazing community partners that we have and the hard work and volunteer hours of people like you.

"Healing mountain trails is hard work and the Montecito Trails Foundation has quietly and faithfully labored to keep the pathways through the heart of our community open to everyone."

Outreach

Ultimately, all of the maintenance and restoration work we do is for you. Nothing makes us happier than to see our beautiful trails in use. So a large part of what we do is promote our mission through scheduling group activities, inviting you to work days and reaching out with community events like our Annual Members BBQ. We know the benefits of spending time outdoors and exercising on the trails and whether you venture out on foot, on mountain bike, or horseback, all are welcome to experience the joy of trail life.

"The work done by MTF to restore the Montecito trails gave me and our community a tremendous gift of healing after suffering damages caused by the Thomas fire and debris flow.  Thanks to MTF,  I feel safe and peaceful again on our mountains."
